Saariselän Kuukkeli in Lapland purchases cleansed, ripe and good quality berries directly from pickers. When you bring berries to us we will also treat you to a Buncoffee.

The berries we buy

Saariselän Kuukkeli buys cloudberries, lingonberries and crowberries primarily. We also purchase blueberries and arctic rasberries (quite rare). The price depends on the market-prices, which depend on the annual berryharvest and summer-weather conditions.

Picking season 2020 (suggestive)

The season for picking begins on 20.07.2020 at the earliest. Most likely during the last week of July. It is possible to continue to pick berries until the end of September, when the Lingonberry is ripe and at the same time the mushrooms should be available also.

The cloudberry picking season continues for a maximum of 2-4 weeks depending on the weather conditions.

Berry-picking areas and sales

Saariselän Kuukkeli is located in the center of Saariselkä, Inari, Lapland, Finland. The actual picking areas are all around Saariselkä (in the center there is no places to pick), from Sodankylä up north (eg. Vuotso) or in norhtern Lapland everywhere. From Saariselkä up to Utsjoki, where the berries will ripen last. The area is very vast, so having your own transportation is most suitable for berry picking up here.

We buy the berries at our Shopping center in Saariselkä.  Saariselkä is the northernmost ski- and sport-resort in Finland.

Mushrooming

Saariselän Kuukkeli also buys fine-quality mushrooms. From Lapland you can find Chantarels and a great variety of boletes which we buy only completely worm-free and cleansed. From more advanced mushroomers we can also make deals to buy other good quality edible mushrooms.

Accommodation, transportation and guiding

If you are in need of accommodation, we can rent an apartment or other accommodation to you with a special discount. Depending on the amount of berry pickers available and their locations, it is also possible for us to arrange some sort of group transportation and even a guide.

In Finland camping is basically allowed anywhere except in close vicinity of properties. Camp-fires are not allowed anywhere though. You are responsible to check the laws of Finland, especially the "Every mans right" -laws in nature.

Because we cannot forecast the amount of harvest or the weather conditions beforehand, we would like to chart out possible berry-pickers who have a serious intention to come and work for themselves and experience the magic of Lapland. Saariselän Kuukkeli is not contracting anyone for a work relationship and does not commit to guarantee your wages, or to buying all of the berries brought to us. We focus on quality.

By leaving an announcement below, we can assist you with any information you might need, we will understand your needs and your experience. We will not be arranging transportation or guiding for anyone without experience and an idea of what seasonal work picking berries is. How to get to Lapland and berry-picking areas

It is everyones personal responsibility to check your possibilities for arrival to Finland and to find your berry picking areas. They are pretty much everywhere up north here. By leaving your announcement we will chart the possibilities and even inform you some good locations for, but we cannot guarantee anything. Arrival with transportation is recommended and easiest.

Depending on the amount of harvest this year, we also process the fresh berries of Lapland into a variety of high-quality berry-products.
